Introduction

This website offers several ways to begin researching your family. You can choose to do your own research or hire one of our volunteers to do research for you. To see what is available through this website look at the following pages and try the links to our various resources

Names Search:

On the Names Search (Look Ups) page you can enter a name in the search box and get a list of our CGS Names Index databases that contain that name and details for each record found. You can order copies of any of the records you find. Tips on how to use the Names Search feature are on that page.

Online Resources:

On the Online Resources page you can access the information in various free collections, and if you are a CGS member there are additional resources accessible to Members only.

Library Catalog and Copy Services:

From the Library Menu you can choose “Library Catalog” that will take you to a search box to see what books, journals, and maps are available at our library. You can search on names, keywords, authors and various other criteria. Using our Copy Services, you can order copies of up to 10 pages per publication in our library.

You can also use the Library Catalog to find other repositories around the country.

Research Links:

Go to the “Research Links” page to find useful links to other sites with genealogical information. These include links to other libraries, newspapers, other societies and information about Forty-Niners (that’s pioneers – not football players).

California Research Tips:

Since we specialize in California research, you can look here to find out more about records and resources available for California in general and our nine Bay Area counties in particular.
