Tuesday, November 28, 11 AM: “Tips & Talk: FamilySearch Skills at the Oakland FamilySearch Center. Denise Plaskett continues her series on using the FamilySearch website. Session topics: View Memories, Upload and Tag Photos, Add Documents—Family history work is more than names, dates, and places. In this session we will explore the many ways to view memories (photos, documents, and audio clips) in FamilySearch and also how to add memories to our ancestors. Doing this will bring your ancestors to life and can provide inspiration to you and future generations. Limited to 14 hands-on students; pre-registration via Eventbrite is encouraged. Free; held in person at the Oakland FamilySearch Center.

Saturday, December 2, 10 AM: Intro to Genealogy. A series of 4 rotating classes covering the basics of genealogical research. This month: “Organizing Your Research.” Free. Via Zoom; preregister for the link.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s a quiet week at CGS – the library will be closed this week. We wish you all a happy holiday, whether it involves turkey or genealogy or maybe both! We’ll open again on Thursday, November 30; and our Tips and Talk series resumes on Tuesday, November 28 at the Oakland FamilySearch Center.

Wednesday, November 15, 11 AM: “Tips & Talk at the Oakland FamilySearch Center. This week: Everyone’s invited to “Expand Your Family Tree” with OFSC volunteers in the computer lab. They will help you fill in your tree, find vital records and census records as well as other online resources. Feel free to bring your laptop. Attendees can use FamilySearch family tree, Ancestry.com, or we can show you how to add to a database program on your computer.

Wed., November 15, 6 PM: “How to Leave Your Genealogy: Don’t Let it Get Thrown Away!at OFSC. Well known lecturer, CGS member, and OFSC volunteer Lisa Gorrell, CG will give suggestions and provide solutions to assure your research will be preserved. AND you might get an idea for a Christmas present!

Friday, November 17, 10:30 AM: Mayflower Descendants SIG. Led by Robert Trapp. Focus on Mayflower ancestry and how to join The Society of California Mayflower Descendants. Discussion of ongoing research.

Saturday, November 18, 10 AM: San Francisco SIG. Sandra Huber leads this group for those interested in finding San Francisco ancestors, with discussion of where to look for records both pre and post the 1906 earthquake.
