On Monday, I wrote about us genealogists taking genealogy vacations, and today I wanted to revisit an article I wrote in my personal blog back in August 2013 about my maternal grandparents’ summer weekends.  I thought I’d just pull it up, add a bit more color and have you all tell me about your grandparents’ summer adventures, but it took a turn, because I know more now than I did back in 2013.

That 2013 article was based on a group of photos I have from “July 11”, but no year listed.  There is one child running around, so I’m gathering this was around 1935 or 1935, as my aunt Judy was born in 1934.

What I know now that I did not know then due to a DNA test is that the man below with my grandmother, who Mom grew up knowing as her father and I grew up knowing as my grandfather, was not biologically so.  Instead, my grandfather’s friend was her biological father, due to a bit of hanky panky goin’ on.  We don’t think any of them knew the result of the hanky panky, but it’s funny to find a photo in 2026 of all of them together many decades ago.

The man lying down below is my biological grandfather, who in her 70s and 80s, my grandmother dated and he used to take her and my mom, his actual daughter, to brunch every Sunday, when mom lived with her mom to take care of her.  Because there was no reason not to tell her, we do not think they knew.
