Can you believe it’s almost September? We’re busy this week with the DNA Special Interest Group, “Tips & Talk” at the FamilySearch Center, the monthly Intro to Genealogy class, and more. Coming up in September: Jill Morelli talks about how to search the not-yet indexed records on Family Search in “Be a Super Sleuth; “Accessing and Using Image Records Online.” Reserve your spot now!

Ongoing classes and events

Monday, August 28, 1-5 PM. Digital Archiving Committee. Volunteers needed to help digitize CGS’s unique collections so they can be made available online. Snacks and fun included! Free. To join us, email Ron Madson: [email protected]

Monday, August 28, 7 PM. Advanced DNA SIG. Mark McLaren leads this group where members can further develop their understanding of DNA techniques, review new developments in DNA testing and tools, and discuss members’ research problems and case studies.

Wednesday, August 30, 11 AM. Tips & Talk at the Oakland FamilySearch Center.
This week: “Beyond Online Resources: Other Places to Look for Your Family.” Jane Lindsey talks about the many “offline” resources for genealogy. She encourages people to walk away from the computer and discover places that hold a wealth of information that can grow your family tree. Free.

Saturday, September 2, 10 AM: “Intro to Genealogy,” our free monthly class for beginners and those who want a refresher. The rotating four-part series begins with an overview and continues with classes delving into vital records, the census, and organization. This month: Genealogy Basics.
