Mark your calendars! Next weekend CGS offers two in-person events guaranteed to appeal to lots of people. On Saturday, August 12, there’s a scavenger hunt in the CGS library. On Sunday, August 13, we lead a tour of Mountain View Cemetery that includes a photography workshop, with tips on photographing gravestones. Please register soon! A description of each event follows.
Library Scavenger Hunt
Saturday, August 12 at 1 p.m.
CGS board officer Evan Wilson directs this fun challenge. Players will have to use their wits, their fingers, and the library card catalog to hunt down clues in CGS’s collection of more than 36,000 books and other materials. Each team of 2–3 players will receive different but similar clues to decipher. Each clue will build on the last, until you find the object of the search! First team to complete their search wins! Light refreshments served. Suggested donation $5 to cover refreshments. Feel free to bring a friend; this event is not just open to CGS members. Attendees are encouraged to come to the library early or stay late to do research.
Photographing Gravestones and Tour of Mountain View Cemetery
Sunday, August 13, 10 a.m.-noon.
Ron Madson and Chris Pattillo lead a tour of the beautiful and historic Mountain View Cemetery, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Besides visiting the memorials of some of the famous people buried here, organizers offer tips on photographing gravestones to preserve family memories.
