CGS Library Committee needs feedback from our members

by Theresa Murphy (12/18/2023)

Currently, we subscribe to several periodicals. Some are free, some are donated, and 30 we pay for. Visits to the library have been down since the pandemic started, so we are wondering if we should continue to renew all of the paid subscriptions. Please review the list below and if you use any of the following periodicals and want us to renew our subscriptions, please send an email to [email protected]

Thank you!

Happy Holidays from the California Genealogical Society

by Jennifer Dix (12/17/2023)

Things will be quiet for the next few weeks as we finish out the year and the holiday season. The CGS library will be closed December 21–30. We wish you peaceful and happy holidays.

Activities pick up again in January! Our Intro to Genealogy class is Saturday, January 6. Other highlights will include the Annual Membership Meeting and Open House on Saturday, January 13–we hope to see many of you there, for a short business meeting followed by fun and festivities.

Also coming up are a book repair workshop with Bill O’Neil, some fascinating presentations in our “Tips & Talk” series, and more! Check out our complete list of events and mark your calendars now!

See you in the new year!

Special Event: Book Repair Workshop, January 20

by Jennifer Dix (12/13/2023)

Bill O’Neil leads a book repair workshop

Join Bill O’Neil and members of the Book Repair committee for a Book Repair Workshop, Saturday, January 20, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Participants learn book repair techniques by making a copy of a “how to” pamphlet written by the late Dick Thrift, founder of the CGS Book Repair Committee. Everyone goes home with a self-made instruction book and souvenir of the day, which includes a list of places to obtain book-repair materials in the future.

This class is limited to 10 people, so grab your place now! Fee is $35.00 for non-members, $30.00 for CGS members. Supplies are included. Bring a bag lunch as there will be a short break around noon.

Preregistration required at EventBrite.
