Reminder: FamilySearch Center Open House, September 14

Come and visit the Oakland FamilySearch Center at a public open house next Saturday, September 14, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Get a free tour of the library and learn about all its great resources for genealogy (always free and open to the public). Fifteen-minute presentations about the upcoming Fall Educational Series at 11:30, 12:30, and 1:30. You can get a coupon for a free color print of your family tree fan chart, and much more.

Outside: Free shave ice! CGS will have a table at the event with more information about our society. We hope to see you there!

Sat., Sept. 7, 10 AM: It’s that time of month againtime for our First Saturday FREE Intro to Genealogy class. This four-part series rotates through the year and you may take the classes in any order; however, this month’s class, “Genealogy Basics,” gives an overview of the series and is a great way to get started. For anyone new to genealogy or needing a refresher. Held in person at the CGS Library and via Zoom.

CGS and OFSC volunteers lead discussion groups, classes, and presentations covering a wide range of genealogy topics. In person at the FamilySearch Center, 4766 Lincoln Ave., Oakland. For more details, see the OFSC events calendar. This week:

Wed., Sep. 4, 11 AM: German Special Interest Group with Robert Jackson.

Wed., Sep. 4, 1 PM: French Canadian Special Interest Group with Jane Lindsey. (Also on September 25.)

Sat., Sep. 7, 11 AM: Chinese Special Interest Group facilitated by Lee Pearce.

Reminder: CGS members can also access free video recordings of past presentations on our website. They include:
– Photo organizing and preservation with Thomas MacEntee;
