Boston University offers two unique courses that combine the convenience of online learning with expert instruction from noted BU Instructors, Certified Genealogists, and practicing professionals in the field. The Genealogical Principles Course and the Certificate in Genealogical Studies are rigorous but accessible courses that ground students in genealogical standards, good practice, and resources and methods for analysis. The highly regarded programs can help you on your journey, whether you are an amateur family historian or an expert working towards your certification from the Board for Certification of Genealogists. They offer a flexible online format that lets you learn remotely, a supportive learning environment, opportunities to meet peers and expand your network, and affordable pricing and payment options. Genealogists of all levels are using these programs for both personal and professional development.

Wednesday, April 12, 11am & 7pm: “How Do You Do That in FamilySearch? An informal presentation on using the FamilySearch website. Lots of little-known hints! Part of the weekly “Tips & Talk” series at Oakland FamilySearch Center. Pre-registration is appreciated.

Wednesday, April 12, 6:30 p.m.: CGS Member Roundtable. CGS members meet online to ask questions, learn from others, share their research successes, and enjoy a collegial group of individuals interested in learning together. Contact Lisa Gorrell or Jacqueline Henderson.

Saturday, April 15, 1 p.m.: FamilyTree Maker Special Interest Group. With Karen Halfon and Keith Montgomery. Hybrid meeting (in person or via Zoom).

Welcome back to the library! Beginning April 3, CGS is returning to most of its pre-pandemic policies and procedures. Eventbrite reservations will no longer be needed to visit the library during its open hours: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 10 am to 4 pm. We’d appreciate it if you email [email protected] the night before to let us know you’re coming! (NOTE: Visits are free for members. Non-members can pay the $5 fee at time of the visit or join and have the fee applied to membership cost.)

Wednesdays, 11am & 7pm: “Tips & Talk” at Oakland FamilySearch Center Join CGS volunteers in person every Wednesday for these fun, free, informal discussions on various tips and tools for genealogy research. Click the link to see weekly topics. Pre-registration is appreciated.
