Special events:

Saturday, August 12, 1 pm: Library Scavenger Hunt!
Match wits in a race to hunt down a specific book or item in CGS’ vast library collection, following a series of clues. Open to all. Suggested donation $5.

Sunday, August 13, 10 am-noon: Mountain View Cemetery Tour and Photograph Workshop. CGS Board members Chris Pattillo and Ron Madson lead a tour of this historic cemetery in Oakland and offer tips about documenting your family’s gravestones. Space is limited! Members free; non-members, $10.

Ongoing events and classes:

Every Monday, 1-5 pm. Digital Archiving Committee. Volunteers needed to help digitize CGS’s unique collections so they can be made available online. Snacks and fun included! To join us, email Ron Madson: [email protected]

Every Wednesday, 11 am-noon: “Tips & Talk at the Oakland FamilySearch Center. Join library volunteers for a discussion about different genealogy topics. Free. In person. This month:

  • August 2: “Got Questions?” Bring your genealogical questions to this discussion group for expert help. Also learn how to use the Center’s photo and video digitizing equipment.
  • August 9: “Improbable Connections”
  • August 16: “Fold3 Military Records”
  • August 23: “Beginning Your German Genealogy”
  • August 30: “Beyond Online Resources – Where Else to Look for Your Family”

Saturday, August 5, 10 am-noon: Intro to Genealogy. Our four-part series is ideal for getting started with genealogy or for advanced researchers to revisit principles of good research. This month: Organizing Your Research. Free. Online.

Saturday, August 12, 10 am-noon: CGS Monthly Board Meeting. Members are welcome to join the CGS Board for their monthly board meeting. Both in person and online via Zoom.
