- UC Libraries – California Digital Library – digital collections of primary resources held by the 10 UC campuses and 300+ cultural heritage organizations (libraries, archives, museums, historical societies) in California
- Calisphere – public gateway to online content of California Digital Library
- Online Archive of California (OAC) – public gateway to over 55,000 collection guides (finding aids) for primary resource collections held by California Digital Library. For researchers who want to locate and access original physical resources.
- Minerva – online catalog for California State Archives
- WorldCat – search engine for materials held by thousands of libraries around the world. Useful for identifying libraries that hold a particular item of interest.
- Internet Archive, Wayback Machine – digital archive of World Wide Web. Enables recovery of deleted websites.
- Library of Congress, Chronicling America – free searchable database of selected historic newspapers (1789-1963) in the U.S.
- Federal Depository Library Program – provides access to historic and current records pertaining to essential activities of U.S. Government. Available at selected libraries in each state.
- California State Documents Collection and Depository Library Program – provides access to reports and publications of all branches and agencies of California State Government. Available at selected California libraries.
- California State Association of Counties – includes county websites, profiles, history, maps
- California Military Department, Military History and Museums Program – includes documents and photos on California military history, military installations, role of California militias/cavalry/National Guard in wars/disasters/civil unrest, etc.
- California Missions Resource Center – history, current status, and distinctive features of each of California’s 21 missions
- California GenWeb Project – online resources for genealogical research, collected at county level by volunteers
- SFGenealogy – links to genealogical databases/indexes and genealogy-relevant entities (e.g., cemeteries). Some statewide info, with major focus on 13 counties in the greater San Francisco Bay area.
