We have a number of special events coming this month, along with our regular meetings and monthly study groups. Our featured presentations include using social media in genealogy; finding the treasures in military pension records; and using genealogy timelines to uncover some personal and family secrets. October 4, 11, 18: “Social Media for Genealogy” series with Carly Morgan. Carly will address the uses of social media for genealogists: how to save and archive social media for documentation; using social media for research; and using social media to promote your business or genealogical society. Don’t miss this informative series!

October 8: “U.S. Military Pension Records: Revolution to Civil War.” Well-known genealogist Rebecca Whitman Koford is our guest speaker, discussing the wealth of genealogical information available in U.S. military pension records, and how to access those records both online and offline.

October 22:  “Ancestral Time Travels: Timelines.” Speaker Jennifer Holick offers a new way of looking at genealogical timelines in which you may identify family beliefs, behaviors, and patterns that will give you new insight. Holick is a spiritual coach who specializes in inherited and war trauma. She has written numerous books on genealogy and World War II.

Saturday, October 1: 1st Saturday FREE Intro to Genealogy. This month: “Using the Census.”

Wednesday, October 12: Members’ Roundtable. A chance to chat with other CGS members, share your research, and ask questions of fellow genealogists. Meets 2nd Wednesday every month. See Special Interest Groups to register.

Saturday, October 8: Monthly Board Meeting. All welcome.

Saturday, October 15: Family Tree Maker Special Interest Group.

Wednesday, October 26: Roots Magic Special Interest Group.
